About Us

Good design should surround us from the start. Just because children are small, it doesn’t mean that they don’t deserve great looks and functionality within their lives.
Like so many similar ventures,
numsi was conceived shortly after the birth of our first child, when we discovered a distinct lack of unique, modern artwork for babies which we actually wanted to live with. After all, you spend a lot of time in your children’s room too. We were looking for artwork with the same aesthetic which we strive for in our own grown-up world; simple, crisp and minimal, yet beautiful and arresting. After a couple of years of planning, and another baby later,
numsi finally exists in the real world.
My name is Helen, and I am a British artist with an MA and an
MFA in Fine Art living in the
USA with my fellow-artist husband and our two daughters. My Danish husband and I met while studying at Edinburgh College of Art and started collaborating to make installation and video art in 1999. We moved to the
USA so that he could take up a teaching position in 2001, and after a couple of years living in a
very rural area, we moved to a city so that we could start living our American Dream. We still collaborate and have regular exhibitions, he still teaches full-time, I teach part time.
numsi is the next part of the plan. When not running around after our very cheeky mischevious little girls, I design and make all the featured products from my studio in the Twin Cities.
